Mosquito Control

The Department of Public Works actively administers a Mosquito Abatement Program.  The approach to minimizing mosquitos is through a process called Larvaciding.  Larvaciding targets the mosquito during their larval stage and prohibits them from developing and hatching into adult mosquitos.  Park Forest uses Altosid Briquettes, which are environmentally safe enzyme tablets that dissolve in the still water that mosquito eggs are laid in, and prohibit the hatching of these eggs.

The Department of Public Works starts its Mosquito Abatement Program in mid-June and ends in mid-October.  The Public Works Department works in conjunction with the South Cook County Mosquito Abatement District (SCCMAD). The SCCMAD maintains the area of Park Forest in Cook County and Public Works maintains the area of Park Forest in Will County.  Park Forest Mosquito abatement  consists of dropping briquettes into the Catch Basin inlets of the Storm Sewer System.  Catch basins hold water and provide a perfect place to breed mosquitoes.

The Village has created West Nile Virus (WNV)/Mosquito pamphlets for residents that can be picked up at Village Hall.
